One of the musicians in the Unsongs project, the Vietnamese singer and activist Viet Khang, has finally been released. In 2012, Khang was detained and charged with “anti-state propaganda” for writing the songs “Who are you?” and “Where is my Vietnam?”, the latter ending up as one of the twelve songs that were translated and reworked for the Unsongs project.
After serving 4 years in prison and 2,5 years in house arrest, Viet Khang was brought to the US on February 8, 2018, thanks to the Vietnamese community and help from the US government. Read more about it here, or see the interview we did with Khang during his time in house arrest at www.unsongs.com. Welcome to freedom, ahn Khang!
