Floriography (2010)

All songs written by me, Pål Moddi Knutsen, on the road between Senja and Oslo 2005 to 2009, except from words on Krokstav-emne by Helge Stangnes, borrowed from the book “Landet og lyset” from 1996.

The songs were recorded in Greenhouse Studios, Reykjavik, together with producer Valgeir Sigurðsson, September 2009.

Studio machinist Sturla Mio Þórisson, cable guy Paul Evans and fellow vegetarian Björn Engelberg made the studio hum.

Mira Wold and Sigga Sunna kept us all alive.

After the session in Iceland, the recording of the album was finalised in Bugge’s Room, Oslo, by producer Daniel Wold, November 2009.

The songs were then mixed through both early and late hours of December by Mike Hartung at Propeller Music Division, Oslo, with great digisurgical help form Hans Andreas Horntveth Jahnsen. Chris Sansom at Propeller Mastering is completing the album as I write this, if he’s not still trying to invent a catchy slogan for his studio.

I am the one singing, playing the guitar and the accordion.

For the rest of the noise you can blame
Christine Henriksen (violin, viola)
Katrine Schiøtt (cello)
Jørgen Nordby Henriksen (percussion)
Einar Stray (piano)
Ofelia Østrem Ossum (cello)
Hanna Furuseth (violin)
Erik Normann Aanonsen (bass, double bass) and
Hanna von Bergen (mbira).

A lot of us played other instruments as well. Everyone, even Mira, sang in the end, and pretty much everyone recorded a few drops of rain during the days in Iceland. Paul is playing the Vik ocean on Rubbles and Valgeir’s waves sing along on A Sense of Grey. All the photos are mine, except the black one, taken by Terese Blåklokke. Rubber stamps were borrowed from Svein Spjelkavik and God Strek.

This album was made with vital support from Frifond and Sparebank1 Nord-Norge. All my thankfulness to everyone that has contributed to the album – too many to mention altogether.

Even a little more takk&hurra to Paraboles Volantes, Rock mot Rus, Jo Dybvik, Ingri Løkholm Ramberg, Mari-Ann and everyone at Kaffen Klar, everyone playing on the album, Parkteatret, Terese and Mira, Daniel and Glenn, all the propellers and impellers for making me feel safe, and to you for lending me your time. Tusen takk!
